A NEW AGE IN EDUCATION: 21st CENTURY LEARNING
People opened their eyes to 21st century with changes they
had never experienced before. These changes include huge innovations like
Internet and computers. At the beginning they were not accessible to everyone;
however, now most of us carry both of them in our pockets wherever we go. In this
rapidly changing world, we teachers are responsible for equipping our students
with skills required to adapt to this new system.
21st century learning skills include digital literacy,
creativity, problem solving and critical thinking. But how can we use these
skills to enhance our language learning process? Internet provides us with a
lot of language sources around the world. It is only possible with digital
literacy that we access to information and share it with others. Creativity is
required to make the information appealing and effective. Also, through critical
thinking and problem solving skills, new information is integrated into language
learning process.
As a result, we are obliged to make our students keep up
with the developments of today’s world. In order to do that they need to have
some basic skills. To teach our students these essential skills, first we need
to develop ours. Only then we can help them in their journey.
