I AM THE TEACHER ON YOUR PHONE

Hello explorers! I am so excited to share my first Flipped Instruction experience. Do you know what a flipped class is? Let me start from the beginning.

Flipped Instruction is a way of teaching English especially in the modern era. It allows teachers to create a more effective teaching environment by completing the homeworks in the classroom that are traditionally supposed to get done at home. This way students have more time creating ideas, producing output and interacting with each other in a lesson time.

My team mates were Yunus Emre KOÇAK and Serra Mirac DEMİRKOL. We were given a task requiring us to create a flipped instruction video material. There were two options; creating a vocabulary video material or grammar instruction. Our option was vocabulary teaching for 5th graders. The unit we worked on was the second one called “ My Town”. Our focus topics were places, prepositions and directions. The websites we used for this task were CANVA and EdPuzzle. The idea of using a cat as a main character sounded suitable as animal characters are loved by many children. I was responsible for voicing the topic  “places in town”. The video starts with this topic as it provides the foundational knowledge. After that topics get harder progressively with the topics “prepositions” and “directions”. We also prepared an interactive video in which they can test their knowledge before the lesson time. Moreover, we created a worksheet to complete with the whole classroom along with 3 minibooks about places, directions and propositions that they can carry on everywhere. All the steps were designed in accordance to the ASSURE lesson plan given below.

I throughoutly enjoyed preparing a digital video material as I like using CANVA for designing general purposes. And to be honest I would sincerely watch this video if I were a kid. Being a combination of my hobby and my profession was the best aspect of this task. I am looking forward to create new videos even if I don’t have a classroom to teach.
